MAKE-UP FOR MEN

Men in make-up.  Do-s and Dont-s!

Stage lights can wash out even the most sculpted faces.  For men, it can be a great asset to use just enough to even out skin and define features.

The needs of the man and the type of dance he is performing will dictate how much make-up is required.  The following guidelines will give you an idea of when and where a little make-up help is needed.

Standard make-up for men:

Step 1. Even out the skin- All blemishes and facial blotches should be covered by using an oil-free foundation.  Under eye circles should be concealed as well so the face has a polished appearance.   Powder should be used to control shine and give the make-up staying power.

Step 2. Define the features- Brows should be shaped and filled in if necessary.  Mascara can be used for men with light lashes so their eyes do not look washed out.

If sideburns or facial hair is part of the mans look this should be defined by using a pencil in the same shade as the facial hair.  Make sure to brush and blend the color into the hair for a natural softness.

Step by Step for more drama:

Dramatic roles with strong lighting.

Step. 1 Cheeks can be contoured if needed with a neutral cheek shade applied just under the cheekbone to shape.

Step 2. Lips can be lined with a flesh colored lip pencil and lip balm applied to prevent dehydrated lips.  Exercise creates heavy breathing, which can dry lips out.

Step 3. Eyeliner in brown can create a fuller eye when applied half way in on the top and lower lashes.  Make sure to leave the outer corners open with your lines never meeting. Some men like black liner to add serious drama and others even wear false lashes for dramatic roles like in cabaret.  This is up to the man.

Step 4. Glitter and body shimmers are beautiful if a lot of skin is showing under the lights.  Glitter hair spray can make a man’s hair appear shinier without having that made up look.
